Most of us 1000 Brits in prison abroad are middle-aged and above. Prostate problems typically arise when we hit 50 and above. Weak urine streams or frequency to take a leak are the usual symptoms, and maybe a feeling of tightness in that sensitive region.

The prostate is a gland the size of a walnut between the bladder and the penis.

Two medications are used, if you can get hold of them. One are alpha blockers, which help shrink an enlarged prostate and also treat high blood pressure. The other is finasteride, which relaxes the bladder neck and prostate muscles. Both can be taken together. One month of taking them may sort the problem for the foreseeable future. To check for an enlarged prostate, you need an ultrasound which is invasive and unpleasant and you need to fast and take laxatives to clear your system.

However, there are simple massages we can do to achieve roughly the same effect. This is not to be confused with an erotic technique of the same name popular in SE Asia.

Steps 1-4 can be done lying down out of sight. 4-6 obviously need to be done standing and preferably not in view of too many other people who may think you have taken leave of your senses. 30 times each exercise is the magic number, so they say. You do not need to do it naked, just by placing your hands over your clothing.

  • Use the width of three fingers placed directly below the belly button to locate the top of the area to massage. Cover it with both hands and massage this area gently 30 times in a clockwise direction. This is surprisingly soothing.
  • Using the index and middle fingers or knuckles, press into the groin from a 45-degree angle down your lower abdomen along your inside leg 30 times.
  • Clasp both hands around the genitals from outside your clothes and rotate clockwise gently 30 times.
  • Clasping the genitals, move up and down gently 30 times.
  • Standing straight with legs together, thrust out your crutch gently 30 times and back.
  • Bend your left leg forward and repeat the process.
  • Bend your right leg forward and repeat the process.

You could do this routine 3 times a day. Certainly won’t do any harm.
